Audio System Power Distribution
Company switches and distros used in audio systems are very similar to lighting distribution equipment, but there are differences. One of the most important considerations for audio systems is a "clean" Ground. To accomplish this requirement, a separate "isolated" Ground is run to audio disconnects. This Ground is isolated from all other Ground and Neutral conductors until it is landed back at the Ground bus for the Service entrance or transformer. In addition, an Equipment Ground must be included on each unit to create a suitable Ground path in the event that the equipment frame is energized. To attain that goal, two Ground connectors are provided on each of our audio connection panels. They are labeled and intended to be used for Isolated Ground or Equipment Ground, as indicated. This also means that an extra Ground cable must be supplied for connection of the Isolated Ground. Disconnects and distros used for audio systems should also be labeled appropriately and locked out from use by anything other than sound gear.
Union Connector manufactures a series of Company Switches, distros, disconnects and cable assemblies with these specific requirements included in the products. We recognize the need for quality, practical, UL Listed distribution gear for sound applications, and have modified our standard equipment to meet these requirements. We are the only power distribution manufacturer to provide this sort of equipment, tailor made for the sound industry.
